Creatures of Earth: Sharing Our Grief with the Land

  • Columbia Children's Arboretum 10040 Northeast 6th Drive Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)
The sun shines on a spider in their web, suspended between green leaves tinged with brown and orange.

We are
Creatures of Earth.

We’ll weave our grief and ourselves back into the land.

Too often, loss and grief pulls and pushes us away from circles of love and care. The earth, though, is always waiting for us.

They are here waiting for us to remember our creaturehood, remember all of the ways we are and can be held by our more-than-human kin.

Creatures of Earth is a time to be with the land, the trees, the sun and earth; a time to let your grief be heard and held. Together we will:

  • Enjoy custom crafted tea, created in collaboration with the plants themselves

  • Move through gentle, somatic, grounding practices to explore what your grief wants you to know, what your body and heart want you to know

  • Solo time to be in dialogue with the land, and with yourself

  • Time to connect with other grievers

We can be creatures together, creatures in deep intimacy with the land. We can experience the deep care of the more-than-human world. We can tend our hearts and grief.

Cost is sliding scale $15-$30, NOTAFLOF.

Please don’t hesitate to email with access needs (including financial) and questions.

Thank you to Francis Weller and his book The Wild Edge of Sorrow for the phrase “Creatures of Earth.”
